Reports from Caught Offside have reignited speculation over Erling Haaland’s future, with Real Madrid said to be in “contact” with the Manchester City striker’s camp. The Spanish giants are reportedly preparing a “huge” spending spree, with one extraordinary domino potentially setting everything in motion.
According to the report, Los Blancos could free up enormous funds if they decide to sell Vinicius Junior to a Saudi club for as much as €250m. That financial muscle would be required to even begin negotiations with City, who “have made it clear that they don’t want to sell Haaland”.

Haaland himself is not actively pursuing an exit either, with sources stressing that the 25-year-old “is also not pushing to leave the Etihad Stadium”. Still, Real Madrid are rarely discouraged by early resistance when they identify a long-term galáctico target.
One source close to the situation claims that Real are unlikely to “give up on this ambitious target”, and the thought of Haaland playing alongside Kylian Mbappé is clearly fuelling internal belief at the Bernabéu.
City executives hold a commanding position. As highlighted in the report, Haaland “only recently signed a new contract running until 2034”. Any move would therefore demand not just staggering transfer compensation, but an active push from the player himself.
“There’s no indication that that’s going to happen for the moment,” states the source, although it is understood Real’s strategy may be to quietly test the forward’s mindset in the coming months.
If Vinicius were to depart, Real Madrid’s recruitment team is expected to respond with a seismic replacement. “Haaland’s arrival would be a major statement,” reads the report, and that sentiment rings true across European football.
His scoring rate is beyond elite. Haaland “has an incredible record of 136 goals in just 155 games for City”, a return that marks him as football’s most lethal penalty-box presence. City are fully aware that keeping him throughout his peak years will define their ambition level in the post-Guardiola era.
Real Madrid’s allure has ended countless transfer standoffs in the past. However, City are unlike most selling clubs, backed by vast resources and a long-term sporting structure that is not dependent on player sales. Haaland is central to their project, not an asset for negotiation.
This story may not lead to a transfer in 2025, but its persistence alone serves a purpose. It places psychological pressure on City while signalling Madrid’s intent to dominate European football through player power and financial leverage.
From a Manchester City supporter’s perspective, this report is nothing new, but it is still irritating. Real Madrid circling every superstar in Europe has become routine, yet this one feels different because Haaland is seen as untouchable among the fanbase. He is not just a striker, he is the identity of City’s current dominance. Even if Real are floating the idea to unsettle him, it will likely strengthen the Etihad’s resolve.
Most City fans would simply dismiss the suggestion that Haaland could swap Manchester for Madrid anytime soon. He is competing for every major honour, his bond with Pep Guardiola is obvious and the squad is built entirely around him. Moving to play alongside Kylian Mbappé might appeal to some, but Haaland already is the main event in Manchester.
That said, there is an awareness that Real Madrid do not quit. If they genuinely plan to sell Vinicius Junior for €250m, then City must be proactive. Offer another improved contract, make him captain in future, build the club around his legacy. Losing him would not just weaken City, it would energise every rival. This cannot become another saga that drags into the summer. Fans want clarity, loyalty and a firm statement of intent from both club and player.
