Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo’s future will dominate headlines in the weeks to come, given the outcome of recent talks between both parties.
His current deal is valid until 2027, with the club having the option to add another year. Given the Englishman’s performances for the first team, the club wants to award him a new deal that reflects his position in the squad.
The only problem has been that his camp has been asking for £180,000 per week plus bonuses and given INEOS’ financial difficulties, there is very little chance of those demands being accepted.
Which is why The Peoples Person had relayed that the 19-year-old is currently inclined towards rejecting his boyhood club in favour of moving abroad despite interest from Chelsea in his services.
United are still trying to agree a new deal with the England international before the current season ends but should they fail to do so, INEOS could agree to sell him for £70 million.
Defensa Central have now revealed that Real Madrid are “very interested” in the Carrington graduate with Mainoo having plenty of admirers in the Real Madrid board.
Juni Calafat, head of scouting, is monitoring the United No 37 but Florentino Pérez does not have the money to spend big to land Mainoo this summer.
However, they are ready to try later provided his price drops and a new agreement is not reached between both parties. Los Blancos are always on the lookout for players with expiring contracts as seen from their acquisition of Kylian Mbappe.
“One footballer who is on the radar of Juni Calafat, head of scouting, is Kobbie Mainoo . The young British player plays for Manchester United and has no intention of renewing his contract, although it is true that it expires in 2028.
“His style of play is quite popular in the Chamartín elite. He’s highly regarded by certain important figures at the club, although it’s hard to imagine the president would approve a significant financial outlay. He’s also a player who has the affection of Old Trafford, so the Red Devils aren’t going to let him go so easily.
“As of today, it seems unlikely that Real Madrid will want to sign this player in the summer. It seems that, in any case, it will be later.”
United should try and ensure Mainoo stays put at Old Trafford but in case an agreement cannot be found, the Spanish giants or any other club should be made to pay a record sum for such a talented midfield ace.
