Gonzalo Garcia lived the dream of every Real Madrid academy star in the recently concluded FIFA Club World Cup when he scored or assisted in every single Real Madrid game until the final.
The young talent made a strong case to be a regular starter in the event which is a great accomplishment in a team that boasts of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo Goes. The competition for a starting spot, however, placed his future in jeopardy and saw him linked with an exit this summer.
Getafe were reportedly best placed to sign him and even have an agreement in place to sign the player if he fails to secure a first-team spot this summer.
As relayed by AS in a recent update, Garcia wants to stay at Real Madrid and is opposed to leaving the club this summer. In fact, a renewal is now suddenly on the cards.
The club is currently negotiating with Garcia over a new deal which will see him become a first-team player for Los Blancos. He will also earn improved wages and see an increase in his release clause which is currently valued at €50 million.

The news of the renewal, needless to say, all but confirms that the breakout sensation will stay under Xabi Alonso’s plans next season and that the Getafe agreement will come to nothing. Needless to say, this comes as great news for the Real Madrid faithful.
Garcia, for his part, remains intent on staying and succeeding at the club even though he has interest from clubs in England, Germany, and Italy.
What it also implies, however, is that there is serious competition for a starting spot in attack next season at Real Madrid for a number of reasons.
For starters, the new manager’s system only involves a two-man attack which Mbappe and Vinicius will occupy in all likelihood.
Further, both Endrick and Garcia will compete to be the manager’s preferred striker, and the latter believes he can eke ahead of the Brazilian teenager in the pecking order.
