Real Madrid increase their contract offer for Vinicius, await final decision | OneFootball

The last 24 hours has been intense for Real Madrid, with the club notably making a breakthrough in their pursuit of Yan Diomande.

The RB Leipzig winger is set for a medical at the Bernabeu and is expected to sign the contract afterwards.

But perhaps a bigger news is surrounding Vinicius Jr.’s contract renewal, with everything suggesting that the player might end up staying at the Bernabeu.

A recent report from The Athletic has pointed out that Real Madrid have now tabled an improved contract offer to Vinicius, following fresh talks in the Spanish capital on Wednesday.

Those discussions involved the player’s camp alongside general director Jose Angel Sanchez and chief scout Juni Calafat.

The two parties had long been separated by significant financial differences, with Vinicius seeking an annual package in the region of €30 million, made up of a base salary, performance-related bonuses and a renewal bonus, the latter proving the main sticking point.

Real Madrid had previously been unwilling to meet those terms. However, the club have now raised their proposal to a level that reflects the winger’s importance to the project.

The ball is now in Vinicius’ court, with the Brazilian having to decide whether to commit, run down his deal towards free agency, or pursue the interest from Arsenal, who are keen to bolster their attack.

The revised offer represents a notable softening in Real Madrid’s stance, and it appears to have brought a resolution significantly closer, with Vinicius understood to be leaning towards staying after the latest round of talks.

Retaining the services of Vinicius would be a huge win for Real Madrid as they prepare for a new era under Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese has overseen a hugely active summer, with Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries and Carlos Espi all arriving, and Diomande now set to follow. A move for Manchester City midfielder Rodri is also being worked on.

With that level of pace and firepower being added out wide, Vinicius would be central to the devastating, quick-transition style Mourinho looks set to build his Real Madrid around.

Having returned from a strong World Cup, where he scored four goals in five games, the Brazilian also sounded content with his new coach.

“Mourinho wants me to be the way I’ve always been: happy, cheerful and to play my football,“ Vinicius said.

With that in mind, keeping their talisman while assembling such an ambitious squad would send a powerful message to their rivals, both in Spain and across Europe.
