Real Madrid are about to net €15m from the sale of former player Victor Munoz, who’s on the verge of joining Newcastle United. The 22-year-old is close to joining the Premier League side for €30m after a standout debut season at Osasuna, although that does not mean that Los Blancos will lose control over his future.

It has been expected that Real Madrid will simply receive the €15m when Newcastle confirm the signing of Munoz, but as per Diario AS, they have also managed to negotiate a buy-back clause with the English club – it means they can bring him back to the Bernabeu in the event that he continues his rise in the Premier League.

The clause in question will only be active for one year, meaning that if Real Madrid do not activate it by the end of next summer, they would definitely lose control over Munoz’s future. Nevertheless, they will have the next 12 months to make a decision on whether he is good enough to return to the club as a first team player.

Munoz and his agent have been very clear that they wanted him to join a club where he would have prominence, which will be the case at Newcastle. Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona means there is a vacancy on the left wing, so the 22-year-old will have every chance to establish himself as a starter at St James’ Park.

As for Osasuna, they will receive €15m plus add-ons for Munoz, while it would be no surprise if they negotiated a sell-on clause into the agreement with Newcastle, which would see them net more money in the event that Real Madrid ended up triggering their buy-back option in 2027.

Real Madrid are also winners, as they also get €15m while retaining control over Munoz’s future, even if it is for one season. And above all, Newcastle get a player who is getting better and better, and if he continues on that trajectory, he could make them a lot of money in the future.
