Real Madrid send ‘formal complaint’ to RFEF over refereeing in Espanyol defeat | OneFootball

La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Monday sent an official complaint the way of those in charge of overseeing Spanish football as a whole.

This comes owing to developments in the club’s meeting with Espanyol over the weekend.

Real Madrid of course saw their La Liga title hopes dealt a heavy blow on Saturday night.

This came by way of a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of relegation-battling Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.

The matchup featured a number of contentious officiating decisions, with match-winner Carlos Romero having somehow managed to escape a red card for a horror challenge on Kylian Mbappé not long before netting the game’s only goal.

Real Madrid also saw a goal disallowed for a further intervention on the part of Mbappé during the first-half.

And, evidently, those behind the scenes in Spain’s capital have been left feeling a sense of injustice owing to as much.

This comes with Florentino Pérez and co. having on Monday evening released a statement, confirming a complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

As per a release across Real’s website and social media platforms:

‘The Board of Directors of Real Madrid C.F. has agreed to submit the following formal complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation, with a copy to the High Council for Sports, in the wake of the poor refereeing performance at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday 1 February.’
