Olympique Lyon arguably pulled off the biggest masterstroke in the transfer market this season by signing Endrick on a short-term loan deal in January.
Since setting foot in France, the former Palmeiras starlet has looked like a completely different player. He has been on fire for Lyon, racking up as many as six goals and five assists.
Given his performances on loan, Endrick even earned a call-up to the Brazil national team during the recent international break and is in the fray for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
What was particularly impressive about Lyon’s move is that the club effectively paid zero loan fee to Real Madrid. That doesn’t, however, mean that the loan was completely free.
According to SPORT, Real Madrid, despite receiving no loan fee, had embedded a special clause in the loan contract as a safety net.
The clause meant that if Endrick failed to play at least 25 matches at Lyon, the French club would have to pay a nominal fee of around €200,000 to €400,000.

Realistically, Endrick cannot reach that tally with Lyon. He has featured in 14 matches already, but even if we combine every competition, he can reach a maximum of 21 matches.
That means Lyon will be entitled to pay Real Madrid a fee of around €200,000 to €400,000, which is barely pocket change for a player of his calibre.
To make things even better for Lyon, the French club were also able to secure a part-salary package for the Brazilian, meaning they are only half of Endrick’s €210,000 per week wages.
The move, however, has posed question marks within the Real Madrid camp, not necessarily because of terms that greatly favour Lyon, but because of the team’s depth in the attacking unit.
Given the current dynamic of the team, the services of Endrick could have been vital for Real Madrid as we gear up for the final phase of the campaign.
