Real Madrid star Rodrygo has taken to social media, to issue a heartfelt apology to the club’s fanbase.

This comes after the Brazilian endured an evening to forget in the colours of Los Blancos during the week.

Real Madrid were of course back in action on the continent on Wednesday, making the trip to Lisbon for a Champions League meeting with Benfica.

When all was said and done, Álvaro Arbeloa’s troops were condemned to a hugely disappointing 4-2 defeat.

The aforementioned Rodrygo was for his part introduced to proceedings off the bench during the 2nd-half, with the aim of introducing some attacking impetus for the visitors.

The 25-year-old, however, only succeeded in making the uphill climb facing his teammates an even steeper one.

This came by way of a surprise red card, for a pair of quick bookable offences.

And as alluded to above, the significance of as much has evidently since hit home for Rodrygo himself.

Taking to his official social media platforms over the last 24 hours, the winger unveiled an apology post, reading as follows:

‘Yesterday I let myself get carried away by the moment. It’s not my way of doing things. I’d never been sent off while playing for Real Madrid and I’m aware of the consequences. I apologize to the fans, to the club, to my teammates, and to the coach. We will continue united and fighting for this badge and for this Champions League!’
