New Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is set to see his defensive options boosted by the return of a key player to matchday duties this coming weekend.

The player in question? Antonio Rüdiger.

Real Madrid, of course, are fresh off kicking the club’s 2025/26 campaign into gear on Tuesday evening.

After welcoming Osasuna to Spain’s capital for a La Liga clash, a solitary strike on the part of Kylian Mbappé proved enough to secure all three points for Los Blancos.

Playing no part in his side’s first victory of the term, though, was the aforementioned Antonio Rüdiger.

The German was not eligible to take to the pitch on Tuesday, owing to a suspension carrying over from the final weeks of last season.

Next time out, though, Rüdiger will be available.

His ban now served, the former Chelsea man is in line to mark his return against Real Oviedo at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere this coming Sunday.
