This past summer, Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi was cited as a potential target for Real Madrid to replace veteran Dani Carvajal in the long term.

The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana reported in June that the Morocco international came through Los Blancos‘ youth system and he also has a favorable contract situation that the La Liga side could exploit as his deal expires in 2026.

“He is a player who is liked, who is on the radar, and who fits because he is a world ‘top’ in his position, due to his versatility, and because he is a Madridista,” Cortegana said at the time. “Moreover, perhaps most importantly, he fits into the club’s policy of trying to go for players who are in a quite favorable contract situation.

“The timing would align. I don’t think he can leave in 2025 because he is at PSG and his future would be with Real Madrid. He would have to wait until 2026. It’s difficult.”

However, the Parisians have caused Real Madrid to cross the defender off their list as transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that PSG and Hakimi are settling the final details for his contract extension. Everything is nearly agreed on contract length and salary.

Since joining PSG in 2021, Hakimi has made 128 appearances across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and recording 22 assists. Furthermore, he’s won three Ligue 1 titles, one Coupe de France trophy, and two Trophée des Champions during his four years in the French capital.
