Dani Carvajal’s return from injury has not been quite as smooth as the veteran would have hoped, and he did not enjoy any significant prominence all January.

Having returned to the team’s dynamics in the game against Real Betis at the beginning of the month, he has only racked up 27 minutes throughout the month and his situation is beginning to worry the club.

Doubts have crept out about his future, and understandably so given his age and constant fitness issues. Diario AS, however, deliver positive news on that front.

Carvajal will renew

As confirmed by the Spanish outlet, it is widely accepted that the club captain will renew his contract with the club which is set to expire this summer.

Nothing is a given as matters stand, and the player must still play more consistent minutes to clarify his situation.

However, he is seen as an exception to Real Madrid’s usual conditions when it comes to renewing veterans given his importance in the dressing room, his long-standing legacy at the club, and his importance as the captain.

Sunday’s game against Rayo Vallecano is seen as a major chance for Carvajal to return to being important in the team’s dynamics. While he may not start, he is expected to have a prominent role at least off the bench.

With even Trent Alexander-Arnold struggling for fitness, Real Madrid are in dire need of a starting right-back to return to 100%. Carvajal, on that front, is poised well to garner regular minutes and prove his worth to the coach.

So far this season, the veteran has made just four starts for the club in La Liga and seven appearances in the competition. In that duration, he averages 0.3 key passes per game, has created one big chance, and has overseen one clean sheet.
