In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Real Madrid wanted to land Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi last summer. It is understood that Los Blancos were eager to get a deal done for the Spanish talent before his move to the North London club.

Zubimendi’s Impressive Form In The Premier League This Season

Zubimendi is having a solid campaign at the North London club as he has produced a series of impressive displays at the heart of Mikel Arteta’s midfield. The Spanish midfield ace has participated in 23 matches for Arsenal this season, scoring two goals and securing three assists in the process across all competitions.

The 26-year-old has anchored the midfield well and has done well to make 29 tackles, 18 blocks, 24 interceptions and 36 clearances in the Premier League. He has even distributed the ball accurately from midfield as he has completed 89% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the North London club will run out in the summer of 2030. Thus, it won’t be easy for Real Madrid to get a deal done for him on the cheap next year.

Should Real Madrid Boss Xabi Alonso Go Back For Zubimendi Next Year?

Zubimendi is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is a good dribbler with the ball as well.

The Spanish talent can shoot the ball with power from long range and can engineer some inviting chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also function as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.

We can expect Zubimendi to add more bite and steel to Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso’s midfield department. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in the coming years.

At 26, Zubimendi has got his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for Los Blancos to consider this January or at the end of this campaign. Thus, the La Liga
