Before facing Elche in La Liga this Sunday, Xabi Alonso responded to criticism in front of the media.
In a press conference on Saturday night ahead of Sunday’s clash with Elche, the coach addressed the press to discuss his players’ physical condition, and also to explain how he deals with the pressure and criticism that have been building over the past few weeks.
"Everyone has arrived in top form and full of energy. We have a demanding match tomorrow. Nothing changes. There are always high-pressure moments, and we’re looking forward to what’s next. We have important games coming up in both La Liga and the Champions League. The energy is there, and we need everyone. We know where we stand and we understand the expectations at Real Madrid. We approach things philosophically, keeping up the standards we’ve set for ourselves. There’s no need to make a big deal out of it. I don’t link the team’s current form to their physical condition. We’re in full preparation and entering a challenging phase. There are a lot of matches in a short period, and we need everyone ready to play. We have to cope with injuries; let’s see if we can offset Militao’s absence," said the former Bayern player.
