Real Madrid youngster dealing with knee discomfort for a month – report | OneFootball

The injury list at Real Madrid has been quite long in recent weeks, with Alvaro Arbeloa having to deal with several notable absences across the pitch.

While there have been significant blows in defence, the attacking unit has also been left short-handed with both Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo Goes having been unavailable.

It had opened the door for youngster Gonzalo Garcia to feature regularly and stake a claim for a bigger role in the team heading into the final phase of the season.

However, he has not started any of the team’s last three games, with Brahim Diaz being preferred ahead of him.

Gonzalo dealing with knee problems

Now, it has emerged that Gonzalo Garcia has been dealing with a fitness problem of his own for a while now.

Indeed, according to Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, the 21-year-old La Fabrica striker has been experiencing discomfort in one of his knees for close to a month now.

While Real Madrid have not made his injury public, the Spanish forward is understood to have been undergoing some conservative treatment during this period to address the problem.

The report states that Gonzalo has seen improvement in his condition because of the conservative treatment. However, the discomfort is still causing problem in some of his movements.

This might explain his lack of starts in recent games, with Arbeloa opting to pair Brahim with Vinicius Jr. in attack in the last three matches, whereas the youngster has played only 45 minutes in that period.

So far this term, Gonzalo has racked up 1184 minutes across 32 appearances, scoring six and assisting two goals in the process.
