Antonio Rudiger returned to full Real Madrid training while Kylian Mbappe is expected to be available for the Benfica match in Lisbon.

Defensive boost at Valdebebas

Real Madrid trained on Monday at their Valdebebas base, with positive news arriving from the session.

According to Marca, German defender Antonio Rudiger completed the full workout with his teammates marking major step forward in his recovery.

Rudiger’s return gives the coaching staff important boost although he is not expected to be ready in time for the upcoming Champions League trip to Benfica in Lisbon.

Reports suggest Rudiger and English right back Trent Alexander Arnold are both nearing full fitness.

However neither player is likely to feature against Benfica.

Their return is considered close, with the two defender expected to be included in the squad for the La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday or at the latest for the upcoming clash with Valencia within the next two week.

Mbappe & Carreras could face Benfica

Meanwhile Kylian Mbappe and Spanish left back Alvar Carreras continued individual training sessions at moderate pace.

Real Madrid indicated that both players remain in contention to be part of the team’s plans for the Benfica fixture.

Their availability would provide added options as Madrid look to secure strong result in Europe.

Real Madrid’s injury list still includes Brazilian centre back Eder Militao & French full back Ferland Mendy.

Both players are continuing their rehabilitation programs.

Mendy trained alone on the pitch while Militao worked indoors in the gym as he progresses through his recovery.

Tchouameni set to rejoin squad

There are not expected to be major changes in the squad traveling to Lisbon, aside from the return of French midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni who missed Saturday’s match against Villarreal at La Ceramica due to suspension.
