Real Sociedad are planning next season under Pellegrino Matarazzo with Álex Remiro and Unai Marrero in goal, pre-season due to start at Zubieta in three weeks.
According to Diario Vasco, the market is quiet and, while names are emerging, no imminent moves are expected. Remiro’s situation may not be settled until later in the summer. The club plan a season on four fronts with both keepers competing.
Matarazzo has said roles are clear, with Marrero back-up and Remiro number one, while also noting there should be chances for both given the schedule.
The club are pleased with Remiro, who joined on a free from Athletic, and he has one year left. No outcome is ruled out, from staying, to a summer sale, or a new deal.
Marrero, a homegrown keeper, has shown he can challenge. He joined the first team in January 2024, then started six Copa ties, impressing in the final against Atlético, and played the last league game at Espanyol after Remiro’s warm-up calf issue.
He did not play the other 37 league matches, nor against Alavés or in the first leg of the semi-final with Athletic after a recent facial fracture in a clash with Guedes. He has 20 senior games and now wants more.
Marrero extended his contract in February to 30 June 2030 and was the shootout hero against Osasuna in January. Remiro kept options open at El Prat when asked about the World Cup and Barcelona, saying he needed to switch off. There are no firm offers, though enquiries exist. Barcelona, under Hansi Flick, have sounded him out and will wait, with Joan García in place. Real remain relaxed.
