Real Sociedad’s player ratings made for grim reading after defeat by Villarreal, with Luka Sucic rated best on the night and Álex Remiro limiting the damage with a string of saves. According to Diario Vasco, most starters fell below their level.
Real Sociedad trailed inside six minutes after an error, then slipped 2-0 down as Gerard found space. Pépé added a third, his shot deflecting off Sergio Gómez. Remiro denied Mikautadze and Pépé to prevent a rout.
Jon Mikel Aramburu was the pick of a porous back line yet was involved in the 1-0 and out of position for the 2-0. Igor Zubeldia was beaten in behind, then suffered a left hamstring issue that could put the Copa final at risk. Jon Martín struggled with Mikautadze’s runs.
Carlos Soler dropped into a double pivot but was overrun as Gueye and Comesaña controlled midfield. Jon Gorrotxategi slipped in the 1-0 sequence, then failed to stop Pépé’s break for 3-0 before asking to come off. Brais Méndez wasted openings for Oyarzabal, and saw Veiga block a first-time effort.
Ander Barrenetxea recovered from a poor start to create chances, while Gonçalo Guedes offered little and Oyarzabal’s clearest opening was saved by Júnior. Sucic scored moments after coming on, one of few positives, and Orri Óskarsson’s superb strike was ruled offside. Duje Caleta-Car failed to stem counters, Aritz Elustondo may need to relieve Aramburu against Levante and Alavés, and Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side were overwhelmed, with set plays needing urgent work before the final.
