Joao Felix’s spell at AC Milan has not gone according to plan, and he could make a return to his former club Benfica this summer.
The future of the Portuguese forward, barring any sensational surprises, will not be at Milan. He joined in the winter window on a six-month loan with no option to buy, but he might not return to Chelsea to stay either.
According to Record (via MilanNews), his old side Benfica want to bring him back on loan by early June and thus have him available for the Club World Cup, which will be played in the United States from 14 June to 13 July.
The Lisbon-based team are in Group C with Bayern Munich, Auckland City and Boca Juniors. It is believed that head coach Bruno Lage could play a key role in convincing Joao Felix to return to the club where he exploded onto the scene, though Chelsea must be convinced as well.
The former Atletico Madrid man scored on his debut for Milan against Roma with a lovely chip in the Coppa Italia, but since then it has been a tale of steady decline. His agent Jorge Mendes is already believed to be looking to the future, with the idea of a move to Galatasaray also mentioned.
