Refereeing blunder costs Corinthians in Brasileiro Sub-17 exit

The Corinthians Under-17 team has been eliminated from the Brazilian Championship. On the afternoon of Tuesday, the 23rd, Timãozinho hosted Flamengo at Parque São Jorge for their last commitment in the first phase of the competition, being defeated 2-1, thanks to an opponent's goal resulting from a non-existent penalty awarded by the referee in the second half. The goal for the alvinegro was scored by Iago Machado.

The defeat left Corinthians with the same 32 points they had at the start of the 19th round, being surpassed by Vasco, who drew their game, reached 33 points, and took the eighth position on the table – the last spot that qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament. As a result, the Alvinegro ended up being left out of the competition already in the first phase.

Coach Raphael Laruccia fielded Corinthians with a starting lineup consisting of Gustavo Milani; Kaio Vinícius, Iago Machado, Cauã Ribeiro, and Lucca Vaz; Pedro Thomas, Lucca Caramico, and Gui Amorim; Cristian, Kawê, and Nícollas. Among the substitutes, Pietro, Cauã Souza, Nathan, Victor Calderan, Vini Gomes, Dante, Heitor, Kayque Dallaqua, Léo Amistá, Augusto, Caio Lisboa, and Rafael Guarnieri were available.

Just three minutes in, Flamengo created the first dangerous chance with João Louredo, launched in front of the goal, but Iago Machado made the tackle. Corinthians responded before ten minutes, with Kawê shooting across and being saved by Werneck. The alvinegra team maintained better possession, and Gui Amorim found Nícollas, whose shot was blocked; subsequently, Cristian shot over the goal.

Flamengo balanced the actions, and Jheferson Rufino shot over Gustavo Milani's goal. The Cariocas began to dominate, with Ryan Dantas shooting with the tip of his foot next to the goal. The game became scrappy in midfield, with Corinthians exchanging passes without creating danger, and Flamengo making decisive passing errors.

At 40 minutes, Corinthians had their best opportunity: Kaio Vinícius crossed to Kawê, who headed close to the goal. In the final play, Ryan Dantas dribbled past the defense and shot hard to open the scoring, leaving Flamengo with a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Corinthians started the second half with two substitutions: Kayque Dallaqua and Heitor came in for Nícollas and Lucca Caramico. In the first play, Gui Amorim set up Lucca Vaz, who crossed for Kawê to shoot over. Flamengo responded with Ryan Dantas shooting hard, but Milani made a great save.

At 11 minutes, Gui Amorim shot from outside the area and was saved by Werneck. Corinthians continued to press, and Kayque Dallaqua was fouled at the edge of the area; in the set-piece, the rehearsed play was intercepted, and in the counterattack, Flamengo was awarded a penalty by the referee, in a play where the opposing player dived without contact, still outside the area. In the penalty, they extended the lead.

Corinthians made more changes, with Dante and Nathan William coming on. Dante shot dangerously, saved by Werneck. Near the 30-minute mark, Heitor crossed to Kayque Dallaqua, who headed without power. At 35 minutes, Iago Machado reduced the score to 2-1 after a rebound in the area.

In the final stretch, Kayque Dallaqua missed a clear chance after a pass from Gui Amorim. Shortly after, at 44 minutes, João Lauredo hit the post of Milani. Corinthians kept pressing but couldn't equalize and was eliminated from the Brazilian Championship.
