Régis Le Bris hailed Luke O'Nien after the defender's standout return to Sunderland's starting XI in the FA Cup at Everton.
Having been sent off at Manchester City in early December, O'Nien played all 120 minutes in the third round then converted the winning penalty to seal a fourth-round place.
"The competition is really high in that part of the pitch." He told Sunderland Echo.
"He did really well today." "On the ball he was really composed as well. I'm happy for him."
"He's a good, strong club captain." "Today he showed great things."
"I am going absolutely nowhere, so yeah, I’m staying at Sunderland."
"I’ll be staying here unless someone’s trying to kick me out, even then I’ll still probably stay. I’m listening to the club, and I’ve got to keep getting better."
O’Nien could get another chance next month, with Sunderland drawn away to Championship side Oxford United in the fourth round, scheduled for the weekend beginning 13 February.
