Régis Le Bris says Sunderland are working hard to strengthen but intend to keep their dealings under the radar to remain efficient, according to Sunderland Echo.

The Black Cats lost 4-2 to Liverpool in Nashville on Saturday in their second pre-season friendly. Thomas Meunier remains the only summer signing as the club target stability.

Le Bris reiterated that Sunderland aim to add three or four core players before the window closes, and could make six or seven signings overall. He said last season's 14 arrivals will not be repeated and stressed the need to work quietly behind the scenes.

Addressing Granit Xhaka's future for the first time this summer, Le Bris said the matter is closed. Chelsea had bid to reunite the midfielder with new head coach Xabi Alonso, and though Xhaka was initially open to it, he informed Sunderland he would stay.

Le Bris praised his captain as a strong leader who loves the club and wants to shape its future. He underlined that Xhaka intends to remain at the club.

During Switzerland's run to the World Cup quarter finals, Xhaka said Sunderland had felt like home from the start and that his family were happy. He added that he had chosen to stay and was ready to make history with the club.
