Sunderland face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, with injuries easing and Régis Le Bris weighing up his XI and bench.
Unai Emery’s side arrive buoyant after booking a Europa League semi-final with a midweek win over Bologna. According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland are also on the up after back-to-back wins and the return of key players.
In goal, Robin Roefs made a strong return to the line-up last weekend, with little doubt he continues here.
At right-back, Nordi Mukiele came straight back in last week. His strike took a deflection, but his all-round display underpinned the win and he appears to have nailed down the role.
Luke O'Nien is tipped to start at centre-back, with Dan Ballard back available but not needing to be rushed. Le Bris hinted during his pre-match media duties that he would keep faith with the club stalwart for now.
Alongside him, Omar Alderete has been outstanding in recent weeks and remains a key figure with and without the ball.
Those calls would shape the spine of Le Bris’s predicted XI, with further selection decisions elsewhere to be finalised before kick-off.
