Carlo Ancelotti is one of AC Milan’s most iconic players and managers, but the defeat to his former club has left him hanging in the balance at Real Madrid.
There are few people who receive as much respect and love as Ancelotti in football, and from a Milan perspective, this is elevated. The former coach and player won everything during his spells at the club and was part of two different iconic teams.
During the late 80’s he played alongside Ruud Gullit, Marco Van Basten and Paolo Maldini before managing the latter when he returned in the 2000s. However, football is rarely a game of sentiment, especially when it comes to the Champions League and former relations were forgotten during the game on Tuesday, with both clubs having a job to do.
For the first time since the 2009/10 season, the Rossoneri left the game with a victory, and according to Relevo (via Milan News), the defeat has left Ancelotti’s job at Real hanging in the balance.
Los Blancos currently sit nine points below La Liga leaders Barcelona – who beat Ancelotti’s side recently – and with six points in the Champions League, there is a general frustration about things. Additionally, the coach has been unable to make things click this season due to new additions, which is frustrating the Spanish giants’ management.
The report suggests that the idea is ‘shocking’ with Ancelotti delivering 10 trophies in three years, however, it seems this will mean nothing unless the former Milan man can turn things around.
