Lavia is expected to be out for at least a month with his latest setback a quad injury suffered in the 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the Champions League.

Chelsea fully support Romeo Lavia

There’s understandably been frustration that Lavia seemingly can’t keep himself fit for a sustained period of time.

His absence, along with that of Dario Essugo has left Chelsea with three fit midfielders in Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Andrey Santos.

Enzo Maresca has used both Malo Gusto and Reece James in midfield at times this season, and that could well happen again.

There were reports Chelsea tried to offer Lavia to Manchester United as part of the deal for Alejandro Garnacho, but if he struggles with injuries again this season there could be a decision to take in the summer.

However, Mail Sport have reported Chelsea are fully supporting Lavia, and are looking forward to his return to action.

The Blues will hope he can return to play some part in the busy festive period, where rotation will be key with the games coming thick and fast.

The latest name to be linked is Nottingham Forest ace Elliot Anderson, who’s also said to be attracting interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.

It’s clear the Blues are planning for potential midfield reinforcements, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if one of the current crop left in the summer.
