Report claims Mourinho blocked late Mallorca move for Andreas Schjelderup at Benfica | OneFootball

Marca reports that José Mourinho stopped a late move for Andreas Schjelderup in the final hours of the window. Benfica received a last-minute approach from Mallorca which did not go through.

The report said the La Liga side’s bid might have been completed had the 63-year-old not intervened. Schjelderup, Benfica’s No 21, was described as being close to joining the island club.

In the closing stages, Mallorca were understood to have reached full agreement with both Benfica and the player. Mourinho’s growing reliance on the Norwegian meant the transfer did not materialise.

January was turbulent for Schjelderup and Prestianni, who were on the brink of leaving on several occasions. Recent displays in a Benfica shirt shifted their status from negotiable to central figures.

This season Schjelderup, valued at 14 million euros, has made 27 appearances, 14 in Liga Portugal Betclic, eight in the Champions League, four in the Taça de Portugal and one in the Taça da Liga. In 1,299 minutes he has scored four goals and provided three assists.
