Turkish champions Galatasaray have made an audacious move to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, according to a report from L’Équipe. The bid, reportedly worth €3 million, signals the Istanbul giants’ intent to bring in a seasoned shot-stopper to fill the void left by Fernando Muslera.
The 39-year-old Muslera ended a 14-year stint at Galatasaray last month, joining Estudiantes in Argentina. His departure marked the end of an era for the Super Lig outfit—eight league titles, over 550 appearances, and a near-mythical status among supporters.
While Gunay Güvenç remains an option, Galatasaray are clearly aiming higher. Their ambition to compete in the Champions League this season demands a keeper with elite experience. That’s where Ederson, a five-time Premier League winner and key cog in City’s treble-winning campaign of 2022/23, comes into the frame.
Despite Ederson stating earlier this summer that he planned to stay in Manchester for the 2025/26 season, his name continues to swirl in transfer speculation. L’Équipe reports that City may be open to selling him now rather than risk losing him for free next summer.
“Ederson has emerged as a potential target as he is entering the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium,” the report states. A contract extension appears unlikely, with City reportedly preparing for a future without the Brazilian.
Should he depart, City have a shortlist of potential replacements, including Porto’s Diogo Costa and Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen. The club’s goalkeeping transition has clearly been discussed behind the scenes.
It’s not just Ederson that Galatasaray are chasing. Inter Milan’s Yann Sommer is also on their radar, though he’s likely to remain at San Siro. More impressively, the club is nearing the permanent signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen after agreeing to meet Napoli’s €75 million release clause.

With that kind of outlay, a €3 million bid for Ederson may seem underwhelming, especially for a keeper of his calibre. Yet it reflects Gala’s opportunistic approach—looking to pounce on uncertainty and contractual situations across Europe’s elite clubs.
From a Manchester City supporter’s point of view, this reported bid is likely to raise eyebrows—and not just because of the modest fee. Ederson, despite a slightly inconsistent 2024/25 season, remains a pivotal figure at the back. His ability to start attacks with pinpoint distribution is unmatched, and City’s style under Pep Guardiola is built around his calm presence.
There’s little surprise that City might be looking ahead to the post-Ederson era, but fans would expect more than €3 million for a goalkeeper who’s still among the top ten in Europe. The club’s reported interest in Diogo Costa and ter Stegen signals that any transition will be handled with care, but fans will hope Ederson stays for one more campaign—especially with another Champions League push in the offing.
This isn’t just about goalkeeping ability; it’s about leadership and continuity. If Guardiola decides to cash in, the next man in must be ready to wear big gloves, both literally and figuratively.
