Serie A champions Inter have not left the race to sign Roma center-back Evan Ndicka, who remains firmly on Beppe Marotta’s shortlist. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Ivorian defender has emerged as one of the likeliest candidates to replace Stefan de Vrij.
De Vrij’s future remains a mystery. Currently away on World Cup duty with the Netherlands, he has less than two weeks left to run on his contract at San Siro. Despite being on the fringes of Cristian Chivu’s side last season, Inter could still hand the former Lazio star a short-term contract extension.
However, tired of sitting on the bench, De Vrij has been reluctant to put pen to paper on a new contract. Meanwhile, Inter have already found a verbal agreement with Udinese defender Oumar Solet. Despite being one step away from signing the Frenchman, the Nerazzurri could add another center-back this summer.
Signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2023, Ndicka has established himself as one Roma’s most reliable defenders. Indeed, he has been a cornerstone of the Giallorossi backline over the past couple of years, alongside Gianluca Mancini.
Furthermore, his contract in the capital runs out in 2028. Therefore, he won’t come cheap. At 26, Ndicka is at the peak of his powers, so Inter may not hesitate to match Roma’s asking price that’s likely to exceed €25 million.
De Vrij’s potential exit would only increase the need for his arrival. That’s not to mention that Inter could also part ways with Alessandro Bastoni and Yann Bisseck, with the former recently emerging as a concrete target for Real Madrid.
