Jamie Carragher has not been convinced by Bayern Munich in the Champions League thus far.
The former Liverpool defender spoke to Sport BILD, where he gave a scathing review of the Bavarian giants.
“Bayern have not convinced me at all yet. Now they are playing against Leverkusen, who dominated Bayern in the Bundesliga recently. It’s a 50-50 tie.
“In the end, I’m predicting Leverkusen [to advance]. If Kompany does not win, there will be many question marks about his appointment.
“The league [Bundesliga title] is expected and the Champions League is the icing on the cake of a season. They have to reach at least the semifinals,” said Carragher.
The 47-year-old discussed Bayern’s head coach Vincent Kompany, who he feels was fortunate to get the position at Die Rekordmeister.
“I think he was lucky to get the job at Bayern. They saw what Xabi Alonso achieved at Leverkusen. A former player who is successful as a young coach.
“Kompany knows the Bundesliga, played in Hamburg. He was a big name as a player and has internalized Pep’s ideas. Bayern think highly of Guardiola.
“So far, he has done what was expected of him. But after third place [in the league] last year, expectations were really low. So, things could only get better. Bayern should be German champions every season - no matter who the coach is.
The 38-cap England international stated he would be “very happy” to see Harry Kane win his first title at Bayern, and he also favoured Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz over Jamal Musiala on current form.
