Report: Liverpool are in talks over move for World Cup hero

Liverpool have been linked with plenty of wide players this summer, and now Haissem Hassan is the latest name pushed into the conversation. According to El Gol Digital, the Real Oviedo winger is attracting interest from Anfield, with Celtic already in the picture and trying to force progress.
That is the basic outline. Celtic moved first, Liverpool are now mentioned, and Real Oviedo are sticking to the numbers. Hassan has a €12m release clause, which converts to around £10.4m, and the Spanish club appear in no rush to blink.

This is where these stories usually become simple. Either a club pays the clause, or it tries to chip away at it and hopes circumstance does the rest. The report says Liverpool have opened talks and would rather negotiate a lower fee than trigger the clause outright. Fair enough. Most clubs prefer that route. It gives them control and preserves room for manoeuvre elsewhere in the market.
Celtic, meanwhile, are said to be readying a second offer in the region of £6.1m to £6.9m, up from the previously reported £3.5m. That is movement, but it still leaves a gap. Real Oviedo have a contract running to 2027 and, for now, that matters more than anything else.
The wrinkle here is context. Oviedo have suffered relegation from La Liga, which can change a club’s leverage quickly. Relegated sides often talk tough before the arithmetic of the season catches up with them. If they need cash, the hard line can soften. If they do not, they can sit tight and wait for someone to meet the clause.
Hassan’s recent exposure has helped. His displays for Egypt at the World Cup, including an assist in the defeat to Argentina, reportedly increased attention around him. That does not guarantee a transfer, but it does explain why more clubs are circling.
This is where a blunt reading helps. A mention of Liverpool changes the optics immediately. It raises the player’s profile, strengthens Oviedo’s hand and puts pressure on Celtic. It also does not automatically mean Liverpool are deeply committed. Plenty of clubs hold talks, gather information and walk away if the price fails their internal logic.
So, yes, Liverpool entering the Haissem Hassan race is notable. It gives the story weight and complicates Celtic’s pursuit. It does not mean a deal is close, and it certainly does not mean Liverpool will pay £10.4m for a player many supporters had barely heard of a week ago.
From a sceptical Liverpool fan’s perspective, this has all the familiar signs of an early-stage transfer link doing what early-stage transfer links do. Hassan may well be a decent player. He may even be one the recruitment staff have looked at seriously. But there is a big difference between scouting, making contact and actually deciding he is good enough for Liverpool.
The first question is obvious. If Real Oviedo want £10.4m, why are Liverpool involved unless they believe there is a market opportunity? This club generally do not throw money around on speculative signings for the sake of it. If the fee comes down, maybe there is a discussion. If it does not, you would expect Liverpool to move on quickly.
The second point is level. Strong performances in a tournament are useful, but Liverpool should not be recruiting off a short burst of form. They need players who clearly fit the tactical demands, can cope with the pace of the Premier League and have a pathway into the squad. Otherwise, it is another name, another rumour and another move that never gets close.
In short, file it under possible rather than probable. Until there is evidence Liverpool are prepared to get near the clause, this looks more like market noise than a deal with real substance.
