Liverpool are reportedly intensifying efforts to seal the transfer of RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, but a deal may have to wait until next summer.
The Reds have been monitoring Diomande for some time, but it now seems clear that they’re increasingly viewing the Ivory Coast international as a priority target.
That’s according to a report from TEAMtalk, but one issue also mentioned is that Leipzig would ideally like to keep Diomande for at least one more year.
The 19-year-old has really impressed this season with a record of 13 goals and six assists in all competitions, and our understanding is that Arsenal are also interested in him.
Still, TEAMtalk now claim that Leipzig want to hold on to Diomande for a bit longer, meaning LFC might have to wait until summer 2027 to sign the talented young attacker.
Diomande would likely be very difficult for Leipzig to replace, but Liverpool could really do with signing someone now to replace Mohamed Salah, who has already confirmed he’ll be leaving Anfield at the end of this season.
We occasionally see deals done in advance, such as with Giorgi Mamardashvili’s move to Liverpool, while that was also the case with Christopher Nkunku’s move from Leipzig to Chelsea.
But given Liverpool’s poor form this season, and Salah’s imminent departure, it remains to be seen if they’d be prepared to wait another year before bringing in Diomande.
The Merseyside giants probably need to focus on someone who is available to join straight away, so it will be interesting to see how this develops and if it leads the club to look at other targets instead.
