Mohamed Salah added another remarkable milestone to his illustrious Liverpool career, scoring his 50th European goal in the Reds’ 2-1 Champions League victory over Lille. The Egyptian forward became the first player in the club’s history to achieve this feat, highlighting his enduring brilliance on the European stage. As reported by LFC.

Salah’s landmark goal came in the 34th minute, finishing a perfectly threaded Curtis Jones through ball to put Liverpool ahead. Reflecting on his achievement, Salah told Amazon Prime Video:
“Hopefully [I’m] not the last one but it’s something I’m very happy and proud about – and especially because we won the game, so that’s the most important thing.”
Salah’s humility shines through his words, as he continues to set standards of excellence for his teammates and future generations at Anfield.
Liverpool faced adversity when Jonathan David equalised for Lille shortly after Aissa Mandi’s red card. Yet, the Reds’ resilience was epitomised by Harvey Elliott, who came off the bench at half-time and scored the decisive goal with a deflected effort in front of the Kop.
Salah was quick to praise Elliott’s contribution:
“I’m happy for him, I’m always there to help him. He’s a great lad and always tries to give his best – sometimes [he plays] five minutes, today he had 45 minutes. He was great, so I’m happy for him.” Photo: IMAGO
Arne Slot’s Liverpool overcame a Lille side that had been unbeaten in 21 matches, a testament to their tactical discipline. Salah gave credit to their opponents, adding:
“They [Lille] have a really good game plan… I will give them credit but I’m glad that we managed to win the game.”
How can we not be brimming with pride over Salah’s accomplishment? His 50th European goal is not just a number; it’s a symbol of the consistency and excellence that have defined his time at Anfield. Every touch, every finish carries the weight of history, and to see him achieve this milestone in front of a rapturous Anfield crowd is a moment we’ll treasure.
And then there’s Harvey Elliott. What a response to the doubters who questioned his role in the squad. Coming off the bench and scoring the winner in such a high-pressure match is the kind of moment that defines careers. Salah’s words about Elliott – “he’s a great lad” – perfectly encapsulate the unity in this Liverpool squad.
Let’s not forget Arne Slot’s management. Balancing squad rotation, managing fatigue, and still delivering results is no small task, and yet, here we are: seven wins from seven in the Champions League league phase. With Salah leading the charge and players like Elliott stepping up, the future looks incredibly bright for Liverpool fans.
