Report: Maik Nawrocki part of Celtic’s long term plans

Celtic reportedly see Maik Nawrocki’s future with the Scottish Champions amid links suggesting a summer move is forthcoming. The central defender has been the subject of an approach from Polish side Pogon Szczecin.

According to a report from journalist Mark Hendry, Celtic see Nawrocki’s long term future at the club but will sanction a loan move this summer with a German side reportedly also keen on signing the player.

The central defender signed for £4.5m from Legia Warsaw but is behind Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Liam Scales in the manager’s estimations meaning that game time will be limited. If Celtic are keen to get the best out of the player then they will need him to get regular game time.

Nawrocki turned 24 in February and is still in the early stages of his career. This report certainly aligns with the reaction from the support after the Polish player’s cameo appearances in the second half of last season, including a formidable display at Pittodrie.

Nawrocki has made just eighteen appearances for Celtic in two years, with that headed goal towards the end of last season his only goal. Although, the fact that Rodgers turned to the player for a Glasgow Derby match and the following week against Hearts suggests that he sees something in the player, this was only confirmed when he gave the player a runout against Aberdeen. It would be beneficial to both parties if Nawrocki is allowed to leave on loan with a view to coming back and staking a claim for a first team spot.
