Manchester United’s search for defensive reinforcements appears to have extended towards Turin, with reports from Corriere dello Sport suggesting Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu has attracted serious attention from Old Trafford scouts.
For a club seeking reliability, versatility and value in the transfer market, Kalulu’s profile certainly warrants examination. The French defender has quietly established himself as one of Juventus’ most dependable performers and now finds himself at the centre of both contract discussions and transfer speculation.

Few players have been as regularly selected by Juventus this season as Kalulu.
The defender started 49 of the club’s first 50 matches, missing only one fixture following a suspension. In an era where squad rotation is increasingly common, that level of trust says much about his importance.
Kalulu’s greatest strength may be his adaptability. He can operate comfortably in a back three or back four and has also filled in on the right flank when required. Coaches value players who solve problems, and Kalulu has become exactly that for Juventus.
His arrival from AC Milan now looks inspired business. Juventus initially secured him on loan for €3 million before activating a €16 million purchase option. Looking back, it may prove one of the smartest deals completed by the club in recent years.
Juventus are reportedly keen to reward Kalulu’s performances with improved terms and an extension beyond his current deal, which runs until 2029.
The club’s proposal would reportedly extend his stay until 2030, with an option for an additional year. Negotiations remain ongoing, however, with a gap between the player’s expectations and Juventus’ offer.

Kalulu currently earns around €2.5 million annually. Reports suggest his camp are seeking closer to €4 million plus bonuses, while Juventus are aiming for a package worth approximately €3.5 million including incentives.
Luciano Spalletti is said to view Kalulu as a key figure moving forward, an important consideration as Juventus prepare for a period of squad restructuring.
From a Manchester United perspective, this is where the story becomes particularly interesting.
Corriere dello Sport reports that United have sent scouts to watch Kalulu closely, including a specific assignment during Juventus’ meeting with Milan at San Siro. The resulting assessments are understood to have been positive.
Defensive versatility remains a prized commodity in modern football. United have frequently faced challenges with injuries and squad balance in recent seasons. A player capable of covering multiple positions while maintaining consistency would naturally appeal.
The reported asking price of at least €40 million reflects both Kalulu’s performances and Juventus’ desire to retain him.
Juventus’ failure to qualify for the Champions League has inevitably altered financial planning.
While the preference appears to be keeping Kalulu, the need to generate revenue could influence future decisions. Several players have been mentioned as potential sale candidates, but Kalulu’s value and relatively low book value make him an attractive asset from an accounting perspective.

For Manchester United, the coming weeks may reveal whether admiration develops into a formal approach. Kalulu has earned his reputation through consistency rather than headlines, and those are often the players successful clubs value most.
Kalulu looks like the type of signing that makes considerable sense.
United supporters have spent years watching the club pursue expensive solutions without always achieving the desired outcome. Kalulu appears different. He is entering his prime years, has experience at a major European club and offers flexibility across several defensive positions.
The statistic that stands out most is his availability. Starting 49 out of 50 matches demonstrates durability and trustworthiness, two qualities United have lacked at various points in recent seasons.
Fans would also appreciate his versatility. Modern squads need players capable of adapting to different systems and covering multiple roles. Kalulu appears comfortable whether deployed centrally or in wider defensive positions.
The reported fee of €40 million would not be insignificant, but many supporters may view it as reasonable given current market conditions. Compared with some of the fees paid for defenders in recent years, there is a strong argument that Kalulu represents better value.
The biggest concern would be whether Juventus genuinely want to sell. Clubs rarely allow highly reliable performers to leave willingly. If United are serious about strengthening their defence, they may need to move decisively before contract talks in Turin reach a successful conclusion.
For many fans, this feels like a target worth pursuing.
