Raheem Sterling has emerged as a shock target for Scottish champions Celtic as Brendan Rogers eyes a reunion with the England international.

Sterling was available all summer, but he ended up staying at Stamford Bridge despite having interest from several clubs.

Chelsea were hoping to get £20m for the winger, but despite interest the Blues received no offers for Sterling on deadline day.

Celtic eye shock move for Raheem Sterling

Sterling was said to have interest from five clubs, but his preference was to remain in London, which made getting a move difficult.

The 30-year-old had a disappointing loan spell at Arsenal last season, where he managed just one goal in 28 appearances in all competitions.

Sterling is back at Chelsea where he’s part of the “bomb squad” and trains on his own, with the England international set to play no football until January at the earliest.

However, according to Football Transfers Celtic could offer Sterling a way out of his Stamford Bridge nightmare, as Brendan Rogers eyes a reunion with the winger.

The report adds that Celtic would be willing to contribute around £50,000 per week towards Sterling’s salary, which could make the move possible if Chelsea were prepared to cover the rest.

Axel Disasi still at Chelsea

Sterling wasn’t the only player who was unable to secure a move away during the transfer window, with Axel Disasi falling into that category.

Disasi had interest from a number of clubs, and reportedly turned down three loan moves to Premier League clubs on deadline day.

The Frenchman had spoken of trying to work his way back into the first team picture at Chelsea, but Maresca confirmed there’s no way back for any “bomb squad” members.

Disasi saw a late move to Monaco fall through, and was also linked with Turkish side Besiktas, but he now faces a difficult few months in the wilderness.
