Bryan Mbeumo’s name has dominated the early summer transfer chatter – and for good reason. The Brentford forward enjoyed a breakout Premier League season in 2024/25, scoring 20 goals and assisting seven more. Those raw stats only scratch the surface, though. According to Sky Sports, Mbeumo’s expected assists (xA) totalled a league-leading 9.26, built from a mammoth 202 crosses – more than anyone in the division.
His work rate is just as eye-catching. Only two players covered more ground or made more sprints, and he clocked the fourth-fastest sprint speed at 36.63 km/h. Factor in that he contributed 27 decisive goal actions – earning Brentford 22 of their total 55 points – and it’s no wonder both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are circling.
Manchester United have already tabled an offer worth up to £55 million, but Brentford rejected it. Sky Sports reports that United remain “relaxed” about their pursuit. Spurs, meanwhile, have made initial contact with Brentford. Intriguingly, their new boss Thomas Frank – who previously coached Mbeumo – could give them an edge.

Despite being “intrigued” by Spurs, one source has told Sky Sports News that Mbeumo is currently “leaning towards United.” The final destination may ultimately come down to who blinks first and meets Brentford’s £60 million-plus valuation.
Mbeumo’s versatility fits neatly into either club’s plans. For United, he could provide much-needed width, pace, and end-product alongside Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha. With Rúben Amorim’s tactical structure favouring dynamic wide forwards, Mbeumo’s profile is ideal.
Tottenham, on the other hand, are rebuilding under Frank and may view Mbeumo as a foundational signing. Given their legal disputes with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS over sponsorship deals, their spending power could be questioned – but ambition clearly isn’t lacking.
Brentford are willing to listen to offers but hold the upper hand with Mbeumo’s contract running until 2027. Selling their talisman would bring in a significant windfall – but replacing his output will be a tall order.
From a Manchester United fan’s perspective, the interest in Bryan Mbeumo feels both timely and strategic. The numbers don’t lie – 20 goals, seven assists, and more expected assists than any other Premier League player last season. But it’s not just about stats; it’s about profile and purpose. United need wide forwards who do more than hug the touchline. We need players who influence games – and Mbeumo ticks that box.
Under Rúben Amorim, the vision seems to be fast, high-energy football with precision in the final third. Mbeumo brings pace, a relentless engine, and most importantly, end-product. He doesn’t disappear in games. His 27 goal contributions earned Brentford 22 points – imagine that kind of impact in a United side with Bruno Fernandes feeding him.
While it’s easy to see why fans might be cautious about another £60 million signing, this isn’t a punt – it’s a data-backed move for a Premier League-proven attacker in his prime. What’s even more reassuring is the club’s “relaxed” stance. No desperation, no overpaying. If Brentford stick to their valuation, great – but it’s also smart to be looking at alternatives like Antoine Semenyo.
Spurs might be tempting for Mbeumo with Thomas Frank there, but this is Manchester United. Bigger club, bigger stage, and a project that looks like it’s finally finding direction. If the board and Amorim see him as a key fit, fans should be backing it. Mbeumo isn’t just a solution – he could be a statement signing.
