The 2026 ‘Finalissima’ between Argentina and Spain has been cancelled after co-organizers UEFA and CONMEBOL failed to find a venue.

Indeed, originally scheduled to be played in Doha on March 27, the Finalissima had to be postponed due to the conflict in the Middle East.

However, the South Americans were desperate to keep the fixture alive and pushed for an alternative solution.

Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez had hoped to feature in this mouth-watering fixture despite his recent injury woes.

Furthermore, Argentina tried to arrange the game to take place close to his home in Milan, but they failed.

Unfortunately, UEFA rejected this proposal, having previously pushed hard to stage the Finalissima at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, it was unacceptable for La Albiceleste to face Spain on their home soil.

Indeed, the reigning Copa America holders quickly rebuffed the prospect of playing the match in Spain’s capital.
