Tensions between Davide Frattesi and Simone Inzaghi came to a head after Inter Milan’s Serie A match against Como last month.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews. They report that that was the evening when things really soured over Frattesi’s lack of opportunities to play.
It is now now secret that Frattesi is unhappy at Inter.
The Italian international is reportedly pushing for an exit. If not during the January transfer window, then next summer.
And the reason for Frattesi’s discontent is clear enough. The 25-year-old former Sassuolo midfielder feels that he has not received enough playing time.
It is not as though Frattesi has never played. He has regularly featured as a substitute and has also had a handful of starts this season.
But for the Italian international, his priority is to be a regular starter. Even if that means joining a team where he’ll be first-choice.
Frattesi’s frustration is something that’s built up over the course of the season.
It is not as though the Italian international expected to instantly start every match for Inter. Particularly with the likes of Nicolo Barella, Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and summer signing Piotr Zielinski all among his teammates.
But early on in the season, it was clear that Inter coach Inzaghi did not see Frattesi as a starter.
Then, even with some positive moments, the 25-year-old never seemed to really earn an uptick in playing time.
Therefore, as the months dragged on without a change in his situation, Frattesi began to feel more frustration.
And according to Tuttosport, there was one match in particular that was a sort of last straw for Frattesi.
The Italian did not start for Inter in their Serie A match against Como last month.
Frattesi did come off the bench in that match. But only in the very last minutes of a 2-0 win, to see out the result.
For Frattesi, that was a clear indication that Inzaghi has little trust in him.
There was evident frustration from the midfielder towards his coach.
And that was a key moment where Frattesi looks to have concluded that there is little he can do to change his situation at Inter. Therefore, he has settled on the idea of leaving to join a new club.
