Liverpool’s Adidas Kit Reveal Delayed: What You Need to Know

In a summer defined by change at Anfield, from marquee signings to a huge summer rebuild under Arne Slot, one unexpected delay is generating conversation — the unveiling of Liverpool’s new Adidas kit. While fans celebrate a Premier League title under their new manager and eagerly anticipate the debuts of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, they are still waiting to see what the German sportswear giant has designed.

Exciting Signings, Old Shirts

Liverpool’s transfer business has captured headlines, with the arrival of high-profile players marking one of the most ambitious windows in recent memory. Supporters are already envisioning their new stars in red, with shirts bearing the names of Wirtz and Frimpong flying off shelves.

However, there is one problem — those shirts do not yet exist.

New signings are being announced while wearing Nike kits, which will never feature in a competitive match again. It is an awkward transitional period, especially when most Premier League rivals have already rolled out their new strips.

Liverpool are returning to Adidas for the first time since 2012, a move widely welcomed by the fanbase. Supporters fondly remember the bold and classic designs of that era. Yet, the much-anticipated reveal will have to wait, and it all comes down to the specifics of contract dates.

Kit Deal Begins After Asia Tour

According to the Liverpool Echo, the club’s agreement with Adidas does not officially commence until 1 August 2025. That means Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Asia will be played in the outgoing Nike kit, with Wirtz and Frimpong potentially making their first appearances in strips that will soon be consigned to history.

The club’s first friendly is scheduled against Preston North End on 13 July, and their final pre-season game, against Yokohama F. Marinos, will take place on 30 July. The new partnership kicks in just two days later, leaving a narrow window for Adidas to unveil the kit ahead of the season opener.

Why the Delay Makes Sense

While it may seem peculiar to delay a kit launch until August, there is historical context. Liverpool’s five-year contract with Nike was shaped by the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019–20 season concluded on 26 July due to delays, forcing the club to extend their then-contract with New Balance by a few weeks. As a result, Nike’s deal was backdated to 1 August 2020, locking in an unusual end date.

That expiry has now dictated the Adidas start date. So while other clubs debut kits on the final matchday or shortly after, Liverpool are in a unique position. Patience, it seems, is required — but fans will be rewarded soon enough.

By the time the curtain rises on the new campaign, Liverpool will not only have a new look on the touchline and in the squad, but finally, on their shirts too.
