Former Manchester United and England star Rio Ferdinand has this week reached out to Real Madrid youngster Arda Güler, by way of a post on social media.

Midfielder Güler is for his part fresh off something of a coming of age over the last week.

At last afforded an extended chance to impress by head coach Carlo Ancelotti, the Turk responded, first, with a Man of the Match performance in a La Liga meeting with Getafe.

This was followed in turn by a starring showing off the bench in the finale of the Copa del Rey against Barcelona, which saw Güler’s quality and composure on the ball make a real difference.

Such form has culminated in fresh calls for the 20-year-old’s game time to be ramped up once more moving forward.

And as alluded to above, one individual evidently of the opinion that Güler is exactly what Real Madrid need as they move into a new era is Rio Ferdinand.

Taking to his official ‘X’ account this week, ex-defender Ferdinand unveiled a pair of posts, outlining why he feels Güler is the right man to replace the likes of Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić in Los Merengues’ engine room:

‘Real Madrid have a problem.. Toni Kroos retired and Luka Modrić isn’t getting any younger. This madrid team need a controller, manipulator, rythym maker. They have great players but are missing this important ingredient in their mix of players now.

‘Güler…. he is young & physically can develop more BUT some players don’t have to rely on physicality (Modrić, Kroos, iniesta, Scholes, Xavi etc) given time & the right structure around him he can provide the rhythm & control the Real Madrid team needs!’
