Josh Sargent has warned Norwich City to let him go before a potential transfer clause sees his asking price reduce.
Josh Sargent has warned Norwich City that they must let him depart the club this January, before a relegation clause in his contract causes potential issues for the Norfolk outfit.
That's according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, who revealed on Friday evening that the American striker could leave at a significantly cut-price fee in the summer if the Canaries are relegated to League One, should their on-pitch struggles not disappear.
Norwich have had a very difficult season, and while their form in recent weeks has picked up, they remain very much in the relegation battle, with the threat of a first campaign in the third tier since 2010 still not disappearing.
Sargent, who will not feature against Wrexham due to disciplinary reasons, has been the subject of significant transfer interest throughout January, with Canadian outfit Toronto FC submitting an $18m (£13.8m) bid for the forward.
He has been training with the club's under-21's since, but he has warned his club about the risk they are running by not selling him, with Philippe Clement adamant that the USA international won't be departing before the February 2 deadline.
Dorsett has stated that the bid for Sargent is closer to the £15m mark, but if Norwich are relegated to League One, the asking price will decrease significantly.

The American looks to be putting pressure on his club to allow his move to the MLS to go through, and with the FIFA World Cup being held by his home country of the USA, Canada and Mexico, he will be keen to play as much football as he can at the highest level he can to impress Mauricio Pochettino.
Dorsett posted on X on Friday evening: "Understand there is a key clause in Josh Sargent’s #ncfc contract that means he can leave for a much-reduced fee if Norwich are relegated to Lg1. So he feels club are taking a big risk turning down £15m bid from #Toronto. He is pushing for a move there."
Toronto finished 12th in the Eastern Conference in the 2025 MLS campaign, ending the season 25th overall as they failed to qualify for the play-offs.
They are now however looking for a fresh face to lead not only the attacking line, but also their franchise ahead of the 2026 season, and they've selected Sargent as the man that they want to do that with.
After Liam Manning made his way to Carrow Road in the summer, there was perhaps an expectation that the Canaries would push up the league table in 2025/26, and target a top six finish in the Championship.

However, this season has been somewhat of a disaster for Norwich, with the club embroiled in a relegation battle while their talisman pursues a move away from Carrow Road after joining the club in August 2021.
He has scored seven goals in 23 games in the league so far in this campaign, but with Clement relegating him to the U21s for the foreseeable future, supporters will question whether he can add to his tally or if they have seen the last of the 25-year-old in yellow-and-green.
Sargent has World Cup ambitions and dropping to League One will hamper his dream. £15m is a substantial fee, and the pressure that the American is putting on his club may eventually see them accept an offer before the January transfer window comes to an end.
