River Plate will not attend meetings of the AFA Executive Committee, citing procedural concerns. The club said in a statement that it will stay away until those mechanisms are corrected.

River reaffirms its belief in harmonious institutional functioning and the value of collegiate bodies. It regards the committee’s current set-up as lacking sufficient procedural guarantees to ensure clear, predictable decision-making.

Discussions should follow transparent procedures, with agenda items circulated in advance and put to a vote of the relevant members. Recent practice has fallen short of that standard, contrasting with processes used by its own board.

Since 2013, River has promoted consolidating a professional competition with a 20-team league and an economic structure designed to foster growth across all clubs.

The institution also defends the not-for-profit civil association model, and recognises the AFA’s defence of the current pension contribution regime for the sport.

The announcement sought to clarify the club’s institutional relationship with the AFA for members, supporters and the wider sporting community.
