According to ExpressAndStar.com, Rob Edwards has been sacked by Wolves after a seven-month tenure. The 43-year-old arrived on November 12 to replace Vitor Pereira and will not lead them into the upcoming Championship season, with Cesar Peixoto due to take over.
The former Wolves player, academy coach and interim manager left promotion-chasing Middlesbrough to take charge of the Premier League’s bottom club. The move drew fury from Boro fans and scepticism from pundits, though improved wages, a return closer to family and his long-held wish to manage Wolves were factors he cited.
He inherited a winless side low on confidence and suffered seven defeats to start. A point at Old Trafford on December 30 was followed by a first victory against West Ham, launching a five-game unbeaten run in all competitions.
Momentum faded, then a late-February and early-March lift brought back-to-back league wins over Villa and Liverpool at Molineux. Wolves then rallied from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Brentford, briefly reviving survival hopes.
After a month without a game they returned to lose 4-0 at West Ham, and, counting that and the Brentford draw, ended the campaign winless in eight, losing half of them. Support began to turn and the season closed with a draw at Burnley.
Despite the noise, the club maintained their backing for Edwards. Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez arrived early in the summer with Edwards involved in recruitment, yet in the same week he was dismissed after 211 days and 30 games.
