Rob Edwards says Wolves are recruiting strong characters to add experience and leadership after relegation, amid a move for Kieran Tripper. According to ExpressAndStar.com, Wolves have agreed a two-year contract with the 35-year-old, with an option of a third, subject to a medical and the final paperwork. The club view the signing as a presence who will hold team-mates to account once complete.

Edwards accepts the squad has lacked that influence for some time and that it was not addressed last summer. He stresses age is not the priority, arguing younger players with know-how in English football can lead as well.

He cited Mane as a different kind of leader and said the aim is to plug what has clearly been missing. The head coach wants the right person rather than a particular age profile.

Wolves have also tied Andre to a new contract, and discussions have been held about bringing Raul Jimenez back to Molineux after his Fulham deal expired.

Those early steps have been welcomed by large sections of the fanbase following a dismal campaign that ended in relegation. Edwards, criticised by some supporters late on, is set to oversee the summer rebuild and says he feels energised about driving the changes. He added that some current players will stay and there will be new arrivals.
