Robin Roefs has restated his position on transfer talk as Tottenham register interest in the Sunderland goalkeeper. According to Sunderland Echo, Spurs have added the 23-year-old to a summer shortlist, while Sunderland are confident of keeping a key player for Régis Le Bris.

Roefs has produced a standout debut Premier League season since joining from NEC Nijmegen for about £9million plus add-ons.

He suffered an injury against Bournemouth earlier in the campaign and missed several games. In his absence, Melker Ellborg impressed, yet Roefs’ return against Tottenham reaffirmed his status as first choice when fit.

Following the 1-0 win over Spurs, he was linked with a £60million move to Chelsea. Roefs said he was focused on the trust and support within the club, was happy to be back, and was not paying attention to outside noise.

He added that it was not the time to consider a move and that he would simply keep going. He described Sunderland’s progress as impressive, referenced promotion and strong performances, and hoped they could continue it next season.

Those remarks now carry added weight as Spurs, who are fighting relegation, review options in goal. Sunderland are expected to make any deal difficult, while Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Manchester City’s James Trafford are also under consideration, with Guglielmo Vicario expected to move on.
