Rocco Reitz to join RB Leipzig in summer on long-term deal

RB Leipzig have completed the signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach captain Rocco Reitz, who will join in the summer on a contract to 2031 with no release clause.

According to Sky Germany, the 23-year-old will move for €21m, with bonuses and clauses potentially taking the total to €23m.

Leipzig’s managing director of sport Marcel Schäfer said Reitz was their top target for central midfield and hailed his versatility, running power, vision and leadership, adding that the club see further room for development.

The timing is awkward for Gladbach, who are in a relegation fight and face the Rhein derby against Köln on Saturday, though the fee offers funds to reinvest in the summer.

It has been suggested he could replace the departing Xaver Schlager, although he may not start immediately given the existing options in midfield.
