Rodolfo Cota’s future at Club América remains open after he became first-choice following Luis Ángel Malagón’s injury.

The 38-year-old joined in mid-2025 on a one-year loan to back up Malagón, featuring mostly in friendlies. According to Americayya.net, América and head coach André Jardine want him to extend his spell.

Malagón’s setback gave Cota his chance and he has impressed, leaving prospect Fernando Tapia on the bench after the latter’s return for this campaign.

Cota has said the decision rests with the board. He had planned to return to León at season’s end to be with his family, but becoming América’s starter has changed his thinking.

His loan expires at the end of this tournament. Jardine has said he has already asked the hierarchy to keep Cota for the next campaign.

The report adds that a permanent deal with León could be explored, likely for a low fee, which could make Cota América’s starter for the Apertura 2026.
