Francesco Farioli has been handed a fitness boost, with captain Diogo Costa and playmaker Rodrigo Mora available for Porto’s home game against Famalicão on Saturday night. Gabri Veiga is suspended after collecting five bookings, making Mora’s return timely. With Nottingham Forest to come on Thursday, Farioli’s rotation will be tested.
After another day off, Porto resumed training at Olival on Thursday to prepare for the 20:30 kick-off. According to O Jogo, Mora has stepped up his comeback from a left-thigh muscle problem, moving into integrated but modified work, confirming expectations he would be ready for this match.
In March, the Spaniard started in the league and came off the bench in the Taça de Portugal against Sporting and in the Europa League against Stuttgart. Farioli is expected to flip that pattern by starting Gabri against Nottingham Forest on Thursday. Against Famalicão, it appears Mora will join Froholdt and Alan Varela in midfield.
The club’s latest medical update listed Diogo Costa on an adjusted programme. The goalkeeper is chasing a 19th league clean sheet this season, which would equal Iker Casillas in 2016/17. Across all competitions he has 22 clean sheets and is three from matching Helton in 2012/13 and Ovchinnikov in 2000/01, the best tally of this century for Porto.
The number 99 has been restricted by an adductor issue that developed as compensation for a lower-back problem, which even made him a doubt for the trip to Braga. Called up by Roberto Martínez for friendlies with Mexico and the United States, he presented medical tests to the federation, was excused, and stayed at Olival to recover for the run-in.
