Aston Villa's Champions League journey came to an end after a pulsating 5-4 aggregate defeat to PSG at the quarter-final stage this week - but the Villans ran the French champions close with winger Morgan Rogers enhancing his reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe.

Former Man City academy starlet Rogers took a circuitous route to the top with a number of EFL loan spells and half a season at Middlesbrough in the Championship in 2023/24, but he has excelled in the Champions League for the Midlanders this season.

With four goals and two assists, Rogers was Villa's most productive player in Europe this term and his dribbling statistics are worth a closer look too - as they put him in illustrious company.

The 22-year-old completed 31 dribbles in total in the Champions League to place him third overall in this stat category, ahead of the likes of PSG winger Bradley Barcola and Real Madrid's electric Vinicius Junior.

In fact, only two players have been more successful in terms of take-ons in this edition of the competition, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal (36) and Milan's Rafael Leão (39) the only players to leave more opponents for dead.

The Villa winger has completed 50% of his attempted dribbles, which also compares well among these 'Top 5' dribblers. Leão (55%), and Yamal (51%) slightly edge Rogers, but the England international is well ahead of Barcola (42%) and Vinicius Jr (38%) in this regard.

Villa take on Newcastle this Saturday in the Premier League prior to a midweek trip to Rogers' old club Manchester City. No doubt, the exciting forward will be looking to show his former employees just how far he has come in that one.
