Los Angeles.– Powered by the Rojiblanco faithful, who packed out BMO Stadium and turned the stands into a full-on party, Guadalajara clearly outplayed their rivals and came away with a 1-0 win in Sunday night’s Clásico Tapatío as part of the 2026 Tour Rebaño.
Gabriel Milito’s squad brought both skill and heart to the match, giving something back to the Chivahermanos from SoCal, who for four days made it crystal clear which team is the most popular and beloved in both Mexico and the U.S.
Chivas came out pressing high, disrupting their opponent early, and as the minutes went by they took control of possession and imposed their usual style, creating the most dangerous chances. The first real look came in the 16th minute, when Ángel Sepúlveda fired from distance and forced a tough save from the keeper. Micky Tapias also had a couple of chances—first in the 18th minute with a shot from the edge of the box that just missed, and later getting on the end of a through ball from Efraín Álvarez, only to blast it just over the bar.
The second half followed a similar script, with Guadalajara dominating the ball while the opposition looked to strike on the counter. The breakthrough finally came in the 56th minute from a corner kick, when “Cuate” Sepúlveda rose above two defenders and powered home a header—top bins! From that point on, Chivas controlled the tempo and coolly saw out the win against their fiercest rivals from Guadalajara.
Late in the game, Chivas kept pushing and came close to adding another. Miguel Gómez had a shot tipped away at the last second, and Sergio Aguayo smashed one off the base of the post that rolled across the goal line without going in.
Thank you for the support, Chivahermanos in L.A.! No doubt about it—you were the MVP. Your energy made the difference in beating their city rivals and proving once again that Jalisco and California belong to Chivas.
