Roma picked up another win against Como on Sunday, as they have often done with Claudio Ranieri in their dugout, while Milan fell again due to a late PK versus Lazio, with the Sergio Conceiçao-led squad suffering its fourth consecutive defeat, three of which in Serie A, including the make-up matches with Bologna, and one in the Champions League playoff.
As per Calciomercato, La Lupa have collected 30 points in 15 matches since the veteran gaffer has taken over. They are on par with Atalanta, and only Napoli (31) and Inter (33) have been more productive during such a stretch.
While Roma have turned their fortunes around with Ranieri, that hasn’t been the case for Milan under Conceiçao despite a solid start. They rank only 8th league-wide in the last eight rounds, Sky points out. They had recorded four victories and two draws before their two recent faux-pas. Things have gone sideways since Zlatan Ibrahimovic had stated that they had picked up as many points as Napoli with the Portuguese coach on the bench.
According to Corriere della Sera, there’s not another coaching chance on the horizon for the Rossoneri. However, the fate of the gaffer is already decided, as he won’t be confirmed in June. He was quizzed about potentially stepping down in the post-game presser.
“I’m here to defend my players and my locker room. That’s what I care about the most, and I’m hurt by seeing their faces and their disappointment. I’m with them. If I have to work two or three extra hours, I’ll do it. We’re in a negative stretch, result and episode-wise. We’ll keep going hard.”
